Snap analysis: the implications of our free school FOI story
The redacted version of the ICO's report on the case.
The strange case of unsuccessful attempts by members of the public to obtain an internal audit report, written following an investigation by the Government’s Education Funding Agency, offers us a few insights into various aspects of academies oversight and the freedom of information regime.
Here they are:
1 “Internal” audit reports carried out by the government’s Education Funding Agency – now the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA)- on academy trusts are kept private unless they proceed to a full investigation.
The verdict of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) sets out a two-phase process for investigations operated by the ESFA, which is part of the Department for Education.
