Parents lift lid on events leading up to academy conversion, and how Regional Schools Commissioner batted their concerns back to the body they were complaining about

The headteacher of a school which had not yet opened a consultation on plans to become an academy was listed as serving on the management team of the trust it was to go on to join – in an unsuccessful application by this chain to take on more schools.

The case of Walker primary school, in Enfield north London, also saw parents asking the government’s regional schools commissioner to put on hold its academisation over concerns about conflicts of interest which they said had gone undeclared by its governing body.

Their call for a delay was backed by the leader of Enfield council, who wrote a letter saying that a “large number of parents” had concerns, and that they should be listened to.

The RSC responded, to say that the parents should raise their concerns “in the first instance”, with the governing body itself.
