Outgoing multi-academy trust chief executive received six-figure sum for single term’s work

The departing chief executive of a small multi-academy trust with a chequered history was paid more than 100,000 for a single term’s work, newly-published annual accounts reveal.

Rodillian multi-academy trust, now known as Resilience, paid its founding chief executive Andy Goulty £105-£110,000 in 2023-24, despite Mr Goulty “retiring” at the end of the autumn term that year, aged 58.

The 2023-24 figure, for four months of the academy year, would equate to at least £315,000 if grossed up throughout the year. Mr Goulty was paid £150-£155,000 for working the whole of the 2022-23 academic year. So the payment of more than £100,000 for autumn term 2023 would represent a substantial increase on the roughly £50,000 per term he had been paid previously.

It is not clear if any kind of end-of-contract pay-off featured in this remuneration, with Resilience telling me only that it included holiday and notice pay. The trust’s accounts list only five “severance payments,” worth up to £25,000 each, during 2023-24.

The history

Rodillian, which changed its name in November 2024 to Resilience Multi-Academy Trust, is based in Pontefract, West Yorkshire and currently runs five institutions: four secondary schools and a university technology college.
