DfE rated 1/10 on free school capital spending disclosures

Southark Free School, which closed last year but has still not had capital costs revealed

The Department for Education has failed to publish any data on the building costs of individual free schools for nearly three years.

This means that more than 300 free schools have opened without any details on how much it has cost the taxpayer to site and build them having been disclosed.

At least seven, including Southwark free school (pictured) have closed without capital spending having been revealed.

The DfE’s spreadsheet with details on the costs of acquiring sites for free schools, and then how much their premises have cost to construct, has not been updated since July 2015 at the latest. This is 950 days without any data being published.
