Combined wealth of richest 10 people in academies sector again estimated at more than �9 billion

The combined wealth of the 10 richest men involved in England’s academies scheme has held steady at more than �9 billion, data published this week have revealed.
The Sunday Times Rich List as usual featured a few businesspeople – all of them male or with wealth listed against men and their partners/families – who have been deeply involved in the academies sector.
Last December, Education Uncovered revealed that the richest 10 people involved in academy trusts – nine of whom who had featured in last year’s Rich List – jointly had wealth of £9.004 billion.
This year, the figure has risen to £9.36 billion, based on figures published in last Sunday’s rankings, although the two years are not strictly comparable*.
Together, the top 10 figures on the Rich List who are involved in academy chains are influential in 103 schools. Four of the 10 have their names in the title of the academy trust with which they are involved.
