Disclosure record at Core Education Trust contrasts with that at another chain, where the wife of the chief executive is its director of primary.

An academy trust which runs some schools with controversial histories is facing fresh scrutiny, after Education Uncovered learned that a senior employee is the son of its chief executive.

The Core Education Trust, which runs four academies in Birmingham, employs both Jo Tyler as its CEO and Zak Tyler, her son, as its director of business and finance, the latter having recently appeared on a Core webpage setting out its key people.

It would appear from the senior management structure in this trust that Ms Tyler is her son’s line manager.

A spokesperson for the trust initially told Education Uncovered that the relationship was declared in its register of interests. However, when this website responded that it was not, I was then told that it did not need to be declared.

This non-declaration compares with another prominent academy trust, where the wife of the chief executive is its director of primary, but where in recent years this connection has been declared.

Education Uncovered is increasingly seeking to document family ties at the top of academy trusts.
